Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
The 49ers let Alexander fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+.

The rest of the league will want that one back. Bear Alexander tumbling to the 49ers in slot 93 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The cost of the Chaplin reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick93 Rnd3 Bear Alexander
Bear Alexander in pick No. 93 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick97 Rnd3 Devan Thompkins
They will replay Devan Thompkins at Round 3, Pick 33 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick102 Rnd4 Greg Johnson
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Greg Johnson in the 102nd pick, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133 Rnd4 Amare Ferrell
Amare Ferrell at No. 133 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick148 Rnd5 Nico Iamaleava
Nico Iamaleava slid further than he should have, and the Round 5 slot is lovely value for the quarterback. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick155 Rnd5 Jayden Jackson
The board had Jayden Jackson higher than slot 155, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick169 Rnd5 Mateen Ibirogba
A straight-up fair deal on Mateen Ibirogba at pick 169, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick188 Rnd6 Cayden Lee
They jumped the gun on Cayden Lee, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick200 Rnd6 King Mack
They let King Mack come to them and pounced at the 200th overall pick. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick201 Rnd6 Zavier Mincey
Zavier Mincey in the 201st pick is fair value, right on his grade. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick207 Rnd6 Coen Echols
No drama and no debate, Coen Echols went about where he belonged in No. 207. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick209 Rnd6 Earnest Greene III
They paid sticker price for Earnest Greene III in pick No. 209, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick229 Rnd7 Payton Pierce
Payton Pierce is a better player than pick 229 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick235 Rnd7 Niki Prongos
Niki Prongos in slot 235 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick249 Rnd7 Sheridan Wilson
A conviction pick on Sheridan Wilson at Round 7, Pick 29 that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick251 Rnd7 Xavier Chaplin
Xavier Chaplin at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
