Draft Grade — Cardinals

FutureA+
A solid, sensible weekend for the Cardinals: B. You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cardinals took Caelen Carson at pick No. 71, roughly 23 spots before his name belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
With quarterback, tight end and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
They took Rome Odunze at par in the 9th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick27
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In the 27th overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
A clean, defensible pick in pick 35 with a little surplus value in Jackson Powers-Johnson. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick66
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick69
Rnd3
Bralen Trice
Nothing to complain about; Bralen Trice went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick71
Rnd3
Caelen Carson
A real head-scratcher, Caelen Carson in No. 71 is miles ahead of his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick90
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
They liked Christian Mahogany enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 90. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick104
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in Round 4, Pick 4 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick122
Rnd4
Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, tight end and other spots to take Jarvis Brownlee Jr., a cornerback that was not the priority.
