Draft Grade — Bills
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Bills robbed the room for Higgins. Final grade: B.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bills were there to profit. Jay Higgins, the No. 137 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 175. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

Fortune has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Linebacker was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Emeka Egbuka
In No. 30 they get a go-to option on the outside, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick56 Rnd2 Bradyn Swinson
They liked Bradyn Swinson enough to skip the value, taking him in the 56th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick62 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 62 with a little surplus value in Alfred Collins. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick108 Rnd4 O'Donnell Fortune
They left a pile of value on the table to take O'Donnell Fortune this early at the Round 4 slot. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick131 Rnd4 Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom at slot 131 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick171 Rnd5 Simeon Barrow Jr.
They paid up for Simeon Barrow Jr. at Round 5, Pick 32 when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick175 Rnd5 Jay Higgins
They barely believed it either: Jay Higgins still on the board at the 175th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick179 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
No edge and no loss on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick 179; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick206 Rnd6 Jason Marshall Jr.
They let Jason Marshall Jr. come to them and pounced at slot 206. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick208 Rnd6 Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant at the 208th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
