Draft Grade — Bears
Overall F
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureC
Williams is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: F.

The phones were a trap the Bears kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.

The whole projection now runs through Caleb Williams; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

They will need Powers-Johnson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left edge rusher open, and the grade is the bill.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In pick 1 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
Rome Odunze at the 9th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick36 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick No. 36 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick40 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
They paid a round early for Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 2 slot, more than the board wanted. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick75 Rnd3 Malachi Corley
A straight-up fair deal on Malachi Corley at Round 3, Pick 11, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick122 Rnd4 MarShawn Lloyd
A conviction pick on MarShawn Lloyd at No. 122 that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
