FutureD-
A weekend the Seahawks spent fighting the board, and losing. F. The rest of the league had time to spare on Jayson Jones; the Seahawks did not wait, grabbing him 61 spots ahead at the Round 7 slot. A weekend to file away and forget, and an F to match.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Stover pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and quarterback still on the board. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
Rome Odunze in No. 14 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick16
Rnd1
JC Latham
In slot 16 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
A wild overpay on T'Vondre Sweat in Round 2, Pick 7, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
Pick45
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
They jumped the gun on Ja'Tavion Sanders, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick58
Rnd2
D.J. James
No edge and no loss on D.J. James in the 58th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick70
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at the 70th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick78
Rnd3
Junior Colson
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Junior Colson. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick81
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
The board had cheaper options than Sedrick Van Pran at Round 3, Pick 17, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick89
Rnd3
Cade Stover
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher and quarterback to take Cade Stover, a TE-EDGE that was not the priority.
Pick107
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
A reach on Ainias Smith in pick No. 107; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick118
Rnd4
James Williams
A conviction pick on James Williams at the 118th pick that the board grades a round light. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick122
Rnd4
Javon Foster
Javon Foster at pick 122 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick126
Rnd4
Javion Cohen
Value said wait; Javion Cohen in the 126th overall pick says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick154
Rnd5
Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick192
Rnd6
Christian Jones
No drama and no debate, Christian Jones went about where he belonged in slot 192. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick194
Rnd6
Jaden Crumedy
Jaden Crumedy at pick No. 194 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick236
Rnd7
Jayson Jones
They reached a country mile for Jayson Jones at the 236th pick, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
