FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Texans for Gould: D-. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Texans, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. Put together, it is a D-.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They will need Thrash to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Gould.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick Analysis
Pick42
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 42nd pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick43
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at No. 43 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick63
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
They paid sticker price for Cooper Beebe in Round 2, Pick 31, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick86
Rnd3
Cade Stover
Cade Stover at the 86th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick90
Rnd3
Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick94
Rnd3
DJ James
By-the-book stuff, DJ James at slot 94 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick123
Rnd4
MarShawn Lloyd
They barely believed it either: MarShawn Lloyd still on the board at the 123rd overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick127
Rnd4
Jamari Thrash
A reach on Jamari Thrash in the 127th pick; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick138
Rnd5
Jalyx Hunt
Nice patience on Jalyx Hunt, who had no business lasting to pick No. 138. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick188
Rnd6
Anthony Gould
Anthony Gould at No. 188 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick189
Rnd6
Kalen King
Kalen King in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick238
Rnd7
JD Bertrand
They let JD Bertrand come to them and pounced at pick 238. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick247
Rnd7
Garret Greenfield
Somehow Garret Greenfield was still sitting there in slot 247, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
