Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Steelers this weekend: B.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Steelers would have aced it. Patrick Payton at pick 161 is 90 spots clear of where he belonged.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Haulcy pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Spending an early pick on offensive lineman with cornerback, linebacker and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick53 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon at slot 53 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick76 Rnd3 A.J. Haulcy
Steal is underselling it; A.J. Haulcy at the 76th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick85 Rnd3 Dontay Corleone
They read the board right and Dontay Corleone was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 21. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick99 Rnd3 Parker Brailsford
A curious use of the 99th overall pick. Cornerback, linebacker and other spots needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Parker Brailsford did not.
Pick121 Rnd4 Drew Allar
Value said wait; Drew Allar in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick135 Rnd4 CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels at pick No. 135 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick161 Rnd5 Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton in Round 5, Pick 21 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick214 Rnd6 Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp at pick 214 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick216 Rnd6 Jeremiah Wright
A tidy little value on Jeremiah Wright in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick224 Rnd7 Zxavian Harris
Zxavian Harris in pick No. 224 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick237 Rnd7 Barion Brown
They reached into another round for Barion Brown, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
