Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA- FutureB-
The Steelers kept it disciplined and banked a B.

There is reaching, and then there is Sam Hartman at No. 238. The Steelers jumped the board by 45 and dared it to prove them wrong. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. They will answer for taking offensive lineman early while interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots went begging.

Getting Johnson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Tyler Guyton
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. More want than need.
Pick48 Rnd2 Kris Jenkins
Kris Jenkins at pick 48 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick51 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots to take Zach Frazier, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick84 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
A straight-up fair deal on Khyree Jackson at slot 84, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick120 Rnd4 James Williams
James Williams in the 120th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick121 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick197 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
Nice patience on Cornelius Johnson, who had no business lasting to pick 197. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick238 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
