Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
C

FutureC+
Larceny in slot 240 lands the Packers a C, Williams and all. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Packers shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
Williams at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Laumea has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
If Jer'Zhan Newton and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Jer'Zhan Newton
In pick No. 19 they get a disruptive interior force. A real need, handled.
Pick40
Rnd2
Josh Newton
Good price on Josh Newton in the 40th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick54
Rnd2
Kamren Kinchens
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kamren Kinchens. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick72
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany at the 72nd overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick83
Rnd3
Zach Frazier
A premium they did not need to pay, Zach Frazier a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
Pick88
Rnd3
Tommy Eichenberg
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tommy Eichenberg well ahead of where he belonged. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick113
Rnd4
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at the 113th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick119
Rnd4
Sataoa Laumea
They talked themselves into Sataoa Laumea at No. 119, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick135
Rnd4
Shemar Turner
No drama and no debate, Shemar Turner went about where he belonged in the 135th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick137
Rnd5
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. in the Round 5 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick159
Rnd5
Zy Alexander
They took Zy Alexander at par in Round 5, Pick 23, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick197
Rnd6
Jase McClellan
The board had cheaper options than Jase McClellan at slot 197, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick217
Rnd6
Jahdae Barron
Jahdae Barron in pick 217 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick219
Rnd6
Reuben Fatheree II
A conviction pick on Reuben Fatheree II at pick No. 219 that the board grades a round light. It fills a real need, too.
Pick240
Rnd7
Isaiah Williams
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 240 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
