Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B+
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Packers this weekend: B+. The Packers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending Round 5, Pick 21 on Kobe Hudson a full 55 spots early.
Getting Mafah where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In the 26th pick they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick54
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
A straight-up fair deal on Jayden Higgins at Round 2, Pick 22, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick87
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
A reasonable price with a little left over, Andrew Mukuba in No. 87. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick90
Rnd3
Barrett Carter
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Barrett Carter at the 90th overall pick is the proof. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick124
Rnd4
Kaimon Rucker
They talked themselves into Kaimon Rucker at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick127
Rnd4
Luke Kandra
A real head-scratcher, Luke Kandra in slot 127 is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick159
Rnd5
Kobe Hudson
They reached into another round for Kobe Hudson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick198
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins at Round 6, Pick 22 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick237
Rnd7
Ethan Downs
They reached a country mile for Ethan Downs at the 237th overall pick, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick250
Rnd7
Phil Mafah
Phil Mafah at pick 250 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
