The phones sank the Packers this weekend: D-.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent the Round 4 slot on Jay Higgins, a name most had 74 spots down the list.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. However the rest shakes out, Hampton at that price is a win they earned.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.

In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick54 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton in the 54th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick70 Rnd3 Darien Porter
No edge and no loss on Darien Porter in pick 70; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.

Somehow Donovan Jackson was still sitting there in pick No. 87, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The roster fit checks out.

No drama and no debate, Deone Walker went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 24. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
