If confidence were a draft strategy, the Panthers would have aced it. Curtis Jacobs at pick No. 166 is 33 spots clear of where he belonged.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

The veteran additions, Amari Cooper chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
