The Panthers kept it disciplined and banked a B-. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Panthers shredded theirs for Jake Briningstool. He came off 84 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Jackson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get a No. 1 receiver, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick50
Rnd2
Josh Conerly Jr.
They liked Josh Conerly Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 50. It fills a real need, too.
Pick65
Rnd3
Jake Briningstool
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jake Briningstool well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick97
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at pick No. 97 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick129
Rnd5
Barryn Sorrell
They talked themselves into Barryn Sorrell at the 129th overall pick, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick161
Rnd6
Javontez Spraggins
Javontez Spraggins in the Round 6 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
