FutureB-
The Patriots bet the future on Williams. The board says B. Start where it matters. The Patriots took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They are betting All proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They banked enough surplus on Pearsall to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In the 3rd pick they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Pick46
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia at pick 46 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick68
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at pick No. 68 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick82
Rnd3
Ricky Pearsall
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ricky Pearsall at No. 82 is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick103
Rnd4
Ray Davis
No edge and no loss on Ray Davis in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick139
Rnd5
Jaheim Bell
Jaheim Bell in the 139th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It fills a real need, too.
Pick153
Rnd5
Erick All
A big swing on Erick All at slot 153, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick182
Rnd6
Taulia Tagovailoa
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Taulia Tagovailoa. The roster fit checks out.
Pick224
Rnd7
Daequan Hardy
Daequan Hardy at Round 7, Pick 4 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
