For all the boxes ticked, the Patriots skipped the loudest one: edge rusher is exactly as bare as it was.

The Hampton steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Reaching for Ersery left real value on the table behind him. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
