Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureC
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Patriots a B+. The Patriots clearly saw something nobody else did in Jalen Travis, taking him 70 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Hampton at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Adding Bernhard Raimann by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In pick 14 they get a wrecking ball inside at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick38
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
A slide stopped in Round 2, Pick 6, with Emeka Egbuka worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick47
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton at pick No. 47 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick69
Rnd3
Tre Harris
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tre Harris at the 69th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick106
Rnd4
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander slid further than he should have, and the 106th overall pick is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick144
Rnd5
Mello Dotson
Mello Dotson slipping to No. 144 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick217
Rnd7
Jalen Travis
A big swing on Jalen Travis at Round 7, Pick 1, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick220
Rnd7
Jabbar Muhammad
Jabbar Muhammad at slot 220 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick238
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at pick 238 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
