The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

However the rest shakes out, Simpson at that price is a win they earned. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Every board in the league had Johnson lower, and that gap is the story.
