Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
Larceny in pick No. 179 lands the Patriots a A-, Hart and all.

You build a draft on nights like this. Cam Hart had no business being available in pick 179, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Spending an early pick on TE-EDGE with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. If Stover pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 JC Latham
In slot 18 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick34 Rnd2 Troy Franklin
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Troy Franklin in Round 2, Pick 2. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick44 Rnd2 Bo Nix
Bo Nix at the Round 2 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick49 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
A reasonable price with a little left over, Xavier Worthy in pick 49. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick68 Rnd3 Cade Stover
A want over a need in No. 68: Cade Stover adds a TE-EDGE while edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick108 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
Value with a capital V on Blake Fisher in pick No. 108, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
Pick139 Rnd5 Ben Sinnott
By-the-book stuff, Ben Sinnott at the 139th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick179 Rnd6 Cam Hart
The board fumbled Cam Hart all the way to the 179th pick, and they scooped it up. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick182 Rnd6 Isaiah Williams
Isaiah Williams at No. 182 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick224 Rnd7 Steele Chambers
They took Steele Chambers at par in Round 7, Pick 4, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick230 Rnd7 Sheridan Jones
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 230, where Sheridan Jones graded well above the range. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick232 Rnd7 Blake Watson
Fair-plus on Blake Watson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
