Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Ransom should have been long gone. The 49ers pounced, and earned a B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Lathan Ransom had no business being available in pick No. 138, and the 49ers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Conner pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In pick 11 they get a building block for the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell in Round 2, Pick 11 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jalen Royals
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jalen Royals at the 75th pick is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick100 Rnd3 Maxwell Hairston
You do not let a cornerback like Maxwell Hairston reach pick No. 100 and blink. They did not. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick113 Rnd4 Joshua Farmer
They took Joshua Farmer at par in the 113th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick138 Rnd4 Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom in slot 138 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick147 Rnd5 Logan Brown
Logan Brown in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick160 Rnd5 Mitchell Evans
A slide stopped in No. 160, with Mitchell Evans worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick227 Rnd7 Ja'Quinden Jackson
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 227 with a little surplus value in Ja'Quinden Jackson. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick249 Rnd7 Hayden Conner
A reach on Hayden Conner in the 249th pick; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick252 Rnd7 LaJohntay Wester
LaJohntay Wester at pick 252 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
