Pats DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Patriots answered their biggest question with Daniels. Grade: B-. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They banked enough surplus on Muhammad III to cover a lot of smaller sins. They are betting Stover proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
The Stover pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots still on the board. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Graham Barton
No drama and no debate, Graham Barton went about where he belonged in the 34th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick68
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
They paid sticker price for Johnny Wilson in pick No. 68, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick103
Rnd4
Cade Stover
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went TE-EDGE with Cade Stover while clear needs at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots sat open.
Pick139
Rnd5
Mike Sainristil
A tidy little value on Mike Sainristil in the Round 5 slot, a step better than break-even. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick182
Rnd6
Moose Muhammad III
Steal is underselling it; Moose Muhammad III at No. 182 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick224
Rnd7
Xavier Restrepo
They took Xavier Restrepo at par in the 224th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
