A masterclass at the trade table lands the Patriots a A-.

Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Patriots came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.

The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. However the rest shakes out, Nix at that price is a win they earned. The cost of the Melton reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.

In the 12th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Bo Nix
Bo Nix is a better player than slot 34 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick42 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
They paid sticker price for Xavier Legette in No. 42, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick68 Rnd3 Edgerrin Cooper
Nothing to complain about; Edgerrin Cooper went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.

Max Melton in Round 4, Pick 3 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
