Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA FutureB-
The Patriots bet the future on Maye. The board says B.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

Landing Abrams-Draine that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Reaching for Haynes left real value on the table behind him.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Pick34 Rnd2 Troy Fautanu
Troy Fautanu in Round 2, Pick 2 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick35 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Legette at the 35th pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick68 Rnd3 Johnny Wilson
No edge and no loss on Johnny Wilson in pick 68; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick71 Rnd3 Christian Haynes
They went early on Christian Haynes in pick No. 71, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick103 Rnd4 Braelon Allen
No drama and no debate, Braelon Allen went about where he belonged in slot 103. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick133 Rnd4 Beaux Limmer
Beaux Limmer in the 133rd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick139 Rnd5 Kris Abrams-Draine
Taking Kris Abrams-Draine in No. 139 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick182 Rnd6 AJ Barner
By-the-book stuff, AJ Barner at pick 182 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick224 Rnd7 Tatum Bethune
Tatum Bethune slipping to slot 224 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
