bringbackbrady DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots

Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall

FutureA
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Patriots: B. The Ajani Cornelius selection is the head-turner. The Patriots reached 31 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
However the rest shakes out, Johnson at that price is a win they earned. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
Tetairoa McMillan at Round 1, Pick 14 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick38
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
They paid sticker price for Tyler Booker in No. 38, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick45
Rnd2
Jonah Savaiinaea
By-the-book stuff, Jonah Savaiinaea at the 45th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick69
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 69 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick77
Rnd3
Elijah Arroyo
A reasonable price with a little left over, Elijah Arroyo in the Round 3 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick106
Rnd4
Lathan Ransom
A clean, defensible pick in slot 106 with a little surplus value in Lathan Ransom. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick144
Rnd5
Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius at pick No. 144 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick217
Rnd7
Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins slipping to the Round 7 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick220
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
They read the board right and Donovan Edwards was the payoff at the 220th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick232
Rnd7
Ja'Corey Brooks
Ja'Corey Brooks in slot 232 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick238
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
They liked Teddye Buchanan enough to skip the value, taking him in the 238th overall pick. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
