Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall
A-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureA+
The Broncos answered their biggest question with McCarthy. Grade: A-. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Broncos committed. J.J. McCarthy is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Torrence. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They are betting Sinnott proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
In the end it comes back to J.J. McCarthy, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
JC Latham
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a building block for the line at fair value.
Pick23
Rnd1
J.J. McCarthy
In the 23rd overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick51
Rnd2
Adonai Mitchell
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Adonai Mitchell in pick 51, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jaylen Wright
No drama and no debate, Jaylen Wright went about where he belonged in the 70th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick76
Rnd3
Kiran Amegadjie
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Kiran Amegadjie worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick112
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
A wild overpay on Ben Sinnott in pick No. 112, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick121
Rnd4
Brenden Rice
They will replay Brenden Rice at No. 121 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick136
Rnd4
Cam Hart
Cam Hart at slot 136 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick145
Rnd5
Elijah Jones
Taking Elijah Jones in the 145th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick147
Rnd5
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in Round 5, Pick 11 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick176
Rnd6
Marist Liufau
Marist Liufau slid further than he should have, and pick 176 is lovely value for the linebacker. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick207
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
The board had Curtis Jacobs higher than the Round 6 slot, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick227
Rnd7
Jaylan Ford
Somehow Jaylan Ford was still sitting there in slot 227, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick232
Rnd7
Ro Torrence
Ro Torrence at No. 232 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
