Grand theft in the 63rd overall pick: the Colts steal Coleman and grade out a B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Keon Coleman got past him. The Colts do not have to explain a thing at Round 2, Pick 31.
They are betting Ulofoshio proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Troy Franklin
In pick 31 they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick46
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
Fair-plus on Edgerrin Cooper, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick51
Rnd2
Ruke Orhorhoro
Ruke Orhorhoro in Round 2, Pick 19 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick63
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 63rd pick is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick82
Rnd3
Marshawn Kneeland
Marshawn Kneeland at the 82nd overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick118
Rnd4
Andru Phillips
Andru Phillips at No. 118 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick150
Rnd5
Jarrian Jones
A straight-up fair deal on Jarrian Jones at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick193
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
They took Jared Wiley at par in slot 193, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick232
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
This one needs a full-page explanation: Edefuan Ulofoshio in pick No. 232, miles early. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
