Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the 49ers a B+.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Ty Hamilton at pick No. 138 is 88 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.

That is a tight end worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick19 Rnd1 Will Johnson
Will Johnson is a better player than Round 1, Pick 19 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick20 Rnd1 Malaki Starks
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Malaki Starks in the Round 1 slot. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick24 Rnd1 Walter Nolen
A tidy little value on Walter Nolen in the 24th pick, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick51 Rnd2 Armand Membou
Armand Membou in the 51st overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick57 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Steal is underselling it; Tyler Booker at slot 57 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick75 Rnd3 Matthew Golden
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 75 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick134 Rnd4 Elijah Arroyo
Elijah Arroyo in Round 4, Pick 33 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick138 Rnd5 Ty Hamilton
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ty Hamilton. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick189 Rnd6 Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley in the 189th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick190 Rnd6 Raheim Sanders
Circle this one: Raheim Sanders at pick 190 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
