Penix Jr. is the Patriots' new face under center. Grade: A-.

Start where it matters. The Patriots took Michael Penix Jr. to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. Landing Smith that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Michael Penix Jr. and all.
