Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
Daniels is the plan now, and the Patriots grade out a B.

Start where it matters. The Patriots took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is McMillan. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

They are betting McGregor proves the room right and everyone else wrong. With interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Jayden Daniels
No drama and no debate, Jayden Daniels went about where he belonged in pick 7. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick34 Rnd2 Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. at pick No. 34 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Troy Fautanu
Troy Fautanu is a better player than No. 38 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick66 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Fair-plus on Jeremiah Trotter Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick68 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Payton Wilson while clear needs at interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots sat open.
Pick90 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
Value with a capital V on Christian Mahogany in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick103 Rnd4 Jalen McMillan
Circle this one: Jalen McMillan at the 103rd pick is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick139 Rnd5 Kamal Hadden
A tidy little value on Kamal Hadden in Round 5, Pick 3, a step better than break-even. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick182 Rnd6 Braiden McGregor
A premium they did not need to pay, Braiden McGregor a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jontrey Hunter
A tidy bit of business in No. 224, where Jontrey Hunter graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick225 Rnd7 Darius Muasau
They read the board right and Darius Muasau was the payoff at the 225th overall pick. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick227 Rnd7 Trevor Keegan
They took Trevor Keegan at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick232 Rnd7 Phil Jurkovec
They did well to land Phil Jurkovec in slot 232, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
