The Patriots cashed the board's mistake on White III: A-. If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Patriots, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They banked enough surplus on White III to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Jahdae Barron and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a press-man option on the boundary at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick38
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
Aireontae Ersery at No. 38 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick69
Rnd3
Cameron Williams
By-the-book stuff, Cameron Williams at slot 69 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick77
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
They paid sticker price for Mason Taylor in the 77th overall pick, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick86
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte at the Round 3 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick87
Rnd3
Elic Ayomanor
The board fumbled Elic Ayomanor all the way to pick No. 87, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick106
Rnd4
Jordan James
They paid a round early for Jordan James in Round 4, Pick 4, more than the board wanted. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick144
Rnd5
Trevor Etienne
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trevor Etienne. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick217
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
The board had Luke Lachey higher than pick 217, and the tight end fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
Pick220
Rnd7
Karene Reid
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 220, where Karene Reid graded well above the range. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick238
Rnd7
Ricky White III
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Ricky White III in the 238th pick, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
