PoppaShart DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Larceny in the 144th overall pick lands the Patriots a B, Dike and all. The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Chimere Dike fell into slot 144.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In the 4th pick they get juice off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick38
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
You do not let a tight end like Tyler Warren reach slot 38 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick69
Rnd3
Marcus Mbow
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Marcus Mbow in pick No. 69, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick77
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
Taking TreVeyon Henderson in Round 3, Pick 13 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Pick106
Rnd4
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo in No. 106 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick144
Rnd5
Chimere Dike
The board fumbled Chimere Dike all the way to the 144th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick217
Rnd7
Tyler Cooper
They robbed the room for Tyler Cooper here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick220
Rnd7
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Steal is underselling it; Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick238
Rnd7
Alijah Huzzie
Alijah Huzzie at pick No. 238 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
