PoppaShart DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots

FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Patriots: B-. Everything else got attention, and interior defensive lineman got none. That is a strange way for the Patriots to leave a draft.
They banked enough surplus on Crenshaw-Dickson to cover a lot of smaller sins. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
Tetairoa McMillan at Round 1, Pick 18 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick38
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker in slot 38 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick59
Rnd2
Marcus Mbow
Value with a capital V on Marcus Mbow in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick69
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson is a better player than the 69th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick77
Rnd3
Elic Ayomanor
Elic Ayomanor at pick 77 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick91
Rnd3
Jared Ivey
Nice patience on Jared Ivey, who had no business lasting to pick No. 91. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick92
Rnd3
Gunnar Helm
They paid sticker price for Gunnar Helm in the 92nd overall pick, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick106
Rnd4
Zy Alexander
A slide stopped in No. 106, with Zy Alexander worth more than the price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick144
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore in pick 144 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick217
Rnd7
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
A tidy bit of business in the 217th overall pick, where Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick220
Rnd7
Joshua Gray
They let Joshua Gray come to them and pounced at pick No. 220. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick238
Rnd7
Phil Mafah
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Phil Mafah in Round 7, Pick 22. The roster fit checks out.
Pick243
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa at the Round 7 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
