Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The Broncos lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Michael Barrett at the Round 5 slot is 31 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The Broncos indulged a want in Solomon while a need in interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots stayed open.

The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Dallas Turner
Dallas Turner in slot 12 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick33 Rnd2 Bo Nix
The board had Bo Nix higher than pick No. 33, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick68 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 3, Pick 4 with a little surplus value in Jeremiah Trotter Jr.. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick76 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Khyree Jackson well ahead of where he belonged. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick103 Rnd4 Javon Solomon
A want over a need in pick 103: Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE while interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick113 Rnd4 Javon Foster
Javon Foster at the 113th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick122 Rnd4 Jaheim Bell
A reach for Jaheim Bell in pick 122; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick149 Rnd5 Michael Barrett
They reached into another round for Michael Barrett, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick222 Rnd7 Walter Rouse
Walter Rouse at Round 7, Pick 2 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Pick233 Rnd7 Maurice Smith
Maurice Smith at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick241 Rnd7 Donovan Jennings
They paid sticker price for Donovan Jennings in the 241st pick, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
