The board owed the Bills one, and it paid up: Walter Rouse, the No. 163 name on the board, sitting there at pick No. 200 like a gift left on the doorstep. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

Reaching for Johnson left real value on the table behind him. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with linebacker the one that mattered most. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
