Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The 49ers spent No. 249 on Sam Hartman, a name the board had a full 34 spots lower.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jackson. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

The dealing was even money, start to finish.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Terrion Arnold
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick63 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia at the 63rd overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94 Rnd3 Gabriel Murphy
They did well to land Gabriel Murphy in pick 94, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick98 Rnd3 Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
A quiet steal in the 98th pick: Dadrion Taylor-Demerson for less than the market said. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick125 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
A straight-up fair deal on Cedric Gray at slot 125, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick132 Rnd4 Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey at the Round 4 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick176 Rnd6 Jalyx Hunt
A tidy little value on Jalyx Hunt in slot 176, a step better than break-even. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
Pick209 Rnd6 Jha'Quan Jackson
They barely believed it either: Jha'Quan Jackson still on the board at pick 209. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick215 Rnd6 Erick All
Erick All in the 215th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick223 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Frank Gore Jr.. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick249 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
They reached into another round for Sam Hartman, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
