More right than wrong for the Patriots, and a B- to prove it.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Kameryn Crawford at Round 4, Pick 30 is 34 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

However the rest shakes out, Johnson at that price is a win they earned. For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

In the 30th overall pick they get a green-dot type in the middle at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick62 Rnd2 Jamari Johnson
Jamari Johnson at slot 62 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick94 Rnd3 Ty Benefield
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ty Benefield at pick No. 94. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick125 Rnd4 A.J. Harris
A.J. Harris at the 125th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick130 Rnd4 Kameryn Crawford
They left a pile of value on the table to take Kameryn Crawford this early at pick 130. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick168 Rnd5 Hollywood Smothers
A reasonable price with a little left over, Hollywood Smothers in No. 168. It fills a real need, too.
Pick189 Rnd6 Payton Pierce
Payton Pierce in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.

They talked themselves into Junior Sherrill at the 200th overall pick, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.

Gunner Stockton at pick 207 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.

C.J. Fite in pick No. 209 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick246 Rnd7 Chris Marshall
Chris Marshall in Round 7, Pick 30 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
