Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
D-
ValueC-
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureB-
The Panthers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Panthers spent Round 6, Pick 5 on Stefon Thompson, a name the board had a full 58 spots lower. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.
On value alone, Walker makes the weekend a net positive. The Panthers paired the rookies with proven help, Trevon Diggs leading the way.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Value said wait; Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 33rd pick says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick65
Rnd3
Devontez Walker
Somehow Devontez Walker was still sitting there in the 65th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick101
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara at pick 101 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick168
Rnd5
Trey Knox
A conviction pick on Trey Knox at the Round 5 slot that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick180
Rnd6
Stefon Thompson
They reached into another round for Stefon Thompson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
Pick222
Rnd7
Tatum Bethune
Tatum Bethune in pick No. 222 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
