Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
C
ValueA-
NeedB-
TradesF
FutureB-
The Seahawks let Henderson fall and pounced. Final grade: C. The board owed the Seahawks one, and it paid up: Jason Henderson, the No. 87 name on the board, sitting there at No. 181 like a gift left on the doorstep. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
If Malaki Starks and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Malaki Starks
In pick 23 they get a centerfielder for the defense. Need was not the driver here.
Pick48
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
They let Kenneth Grant come to them and pounced at No. 48. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick80
Rnd3
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
A tidy little value on Jamon Dumas-Johnson in Round 3, Pick 16, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick87
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
They robbed the room for Ashton Gillotte here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick112
Rnd4
Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray at the Round 4 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick119
Rnd4
Jake Briningstool
A tight end of that caliber at the 119th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick176
Rnd6
Noah Fifita
Circle this one: Noah Fifita at slot 176 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Pick181
Rnd6
Jason Henderson
Jason Henderson at pick No. 181 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick208
Rnd7
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in Round 7, Pick 16 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
