If confidence were a draft strategy, the Patriots would have aced it. Rondell Bothroyd at Round 7, Pick 4 is 59 spots clear of where he belonged.

For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Landing Smith that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

They did well to land Keon Coleman in the 34th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick68 Rnd3 Marshawn Kneeland
A real head-scratcher, Marshawn Kneeland in No. 68 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick103 Rnd4 Tykee Smith
The board had Tykee Smith higher than pick 103, and the safety fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick139 Rnd5 Frank Gore Jr.
A big swing on Frank Gore Jr. at the 139th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.

A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on AJ Barner. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
