Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesD FutureA
More right than wrong for the Steelers, and a B- to prove it.

Nobody else had Will Sheppard anywhere near the 231st overall pick. The Steelers did, by 104 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

Getting Henderson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick52 Rnd2 Walter Nolen
Circle this one: Walter Nolen at Round 2, Pick 20 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick57 Rnd2 Azareye'h Thomas
Azareye'h Thomas at the 57th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick83 Rnd3 Darien Porter
Nothing to complain about; Darien Porter went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick122 Rnd4 TreVeyon Henderson
They barely believed it either: TreVeyon Henderson still on the board at pick No. 122. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick163 Rnd5 Roc Taylor
Roc Taylor in pick 163 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick164 Rnd5 Jack Nelson
By-the-book stuff, Jack Nelson at slot 164 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick225 Rnd7 Xavier Truss
Xavier Truss at the 225th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick231 Rnd7 Will Sheppard
They reached into another round for Will Sheppard, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick247 Rnd7 Jordan Hancock
They will replay Jordan Hancock at pick No. 247 for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
