FutureA
The Cowboys got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D. The Cowboys put a flag in the ground for Nathan Pickering, 87 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. It grades a D, and the process earned it.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Kool-Aid McKinstry
In slot 19 they get a lockdown presence outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick24
Rnd1
Jordan Morgan
In pick 24 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick56
Rnd2
Jonathon Brooks
They took Jonathon Brooks at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick75
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
They paid up for Sedrick Van Pran at pick No. 75 when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick83
Rnd3
Junior Colson
Good price on Junior Colson in No. 83, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick87
Rnd3
Roman Wilson
Roman Wilson at Round 3, Pick 24 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick88
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
No drama and no debate, Michael Hall Jr. went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 25. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick110
Rnd4
Jordan Travis
A big swing on Jordan Travis at pick 110, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick124
Rnd4
Will Shipley
No edge and no loss on Will Shipley in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick174
Rnd5
Josh Proctor
A reach for Josh Proctor in No. 174; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick183
Rnd6
Isaiah Neyor
Isaiah Neyor at pick No. 183 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick212
Rnd6
Marcus Harris
A premium they did not need to pay, Marcus Harris a notch or two before his time. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick245
Rnd7
Nathan Pickering
Nathan Pickering at the 245th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
