Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesC- FutureA
The Patriots robbed the room for Jackson. Final grade: B.

Somebody in the 181st overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Khyree Jackson, the No. 128 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick19 Rnd1 Emeka Egbuka
In pick 19 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35 Rnd2 Troy Fautanu
No edge and no loss on Troy Fautanu in No. 35; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick42 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
The board fumbled Xavier Legette all the way to slot 42, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick51 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Morgan at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick67 Rnd3 Javon Foster
Javon Foster at pick No. 67 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick83 Rnd3 Tyler Guyton
Circle this one: Tyler Guyton at the 83rd pick is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick103 Rnd4 Will Shipley
A reasonable price with a little left over, Will Shipley in Round 4, Pick 3. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick140 Rnd5 James Williams
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing James Williams in the 140th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick181 Rnd6 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jack Nelson
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jack Nelson in the 224th pick, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
