Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Mendoza is the Raiders' new face under center. Grade: B-. The search is over. The Raiders handed the keys to Fernando Mendoza, and the whole operation now runs on his development. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
Every board in the league had Harris lower, and that gap is the story. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Moore at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In pick 1 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Olaivavega Ioane at pick No. 36. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Blake Miller
Blake Miller is a better player than No. 67 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick102
Rnd4
Bud Clark
No edge and no loss on Bud Clark in the 102nd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick117
Rnd4
Darrell Jackson Jr.
Darrell Jackson Jr. in slot 117 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick134
Rnd4
Hezekiah Masses
Hezekiah Masses in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick175
Rnd5
Louis Moore
You do not let a safety like Louis Moore reach Round 5, Pick 35 and blink. They did not. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick182
Rnd6
Febechi Nwaiwu
They read the board right and Febechi Nwaiwu was the payoff at the 182nd pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick185
Rnd6
Zxavian Harris
This one needs a full-page explanation: Zxavian Harris in No. 185, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick219
Rnd7
Isaiah Jatta
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Isaiah Jatta. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
