Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
C

FutureB-
The 49ers land in the muddy middle: C. The 49ers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick No. 27 on Ethan Onianwa a full 391 spots early. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.
Landing Rivers that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Ethan Onianwa
They talked themselves into Ethan Onianwa at the Round 1 slot, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick58
Rnd2
Tim Keenan III
A wild overpay on Tim Keenan III in slot 58, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick92
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy at pick 92 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick127
Rnd4
Billy Schrauth
Billy Schrauth in No. 127 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick133
Rnd4
Chase Roberts
They left a pile of value on the table to take Chase Roberts this early at the 133rd overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick138
Rnd4
Eli Raridon
Eli Raridon is a better player than Round 4, Pick 38 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick171
Rnd5
Chandler Rivers
Taking Chandler Rivers in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
