Draft Grade — Raiders

Penix Jr. is the plan now, and the Raiders grade out a B.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Raiders spent their marquee pick on Michael Penix Jr., and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

Okie-Anoma has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

The trade work was a quiet net positive.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 Michael Penix Jr.
In the 13th pick they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Pick21 Rnd1 Kool-Aid McKinstry
In pick 21 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick112 Rnd4 Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten at the Round 4 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick148 Rnd5 Javion Cohen
They talked themselves into Javion Cohen at Round 5, Pick 12, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick208 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
They reached into another round for Frank Gore Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick223 Rnd7 Jowon Briggs
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jowon Briggs well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick229 Rnd7 Eyabi Okie-Anoma
Eyabi Okie-Anoma at pick No. 229 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
