Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Raiders bet the future on Mendoza. The board says B-. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Fernando Mendoza is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
The Huskey reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
Fernando Mendoza in the 1st overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick36
Rnd2
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. in pick No. 36 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at the 67th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick102
Rnd4
Gracen Halton
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Gracen Halton. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
They took Jalon Kilgore at par in slot 117, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick134
Rnd4
Keagen Trost
Keagen Trost at Round 4, Pick 34 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick175
Rnd5
Pat Coogan
Pat Coogan at pick 175 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick182
Rnd6
Jalen Huskey
They reached into another round for Jalen Huskey, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick185
Rnd6
Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp at the 185th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick219
Rnd7
Jimmy Rolder
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jimmy Rolder. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
