jdthree DRAFTING FOR THESteelers

Draft Grade — Steelers

The Steelers let Washington fall into their laps, and walked away with a C+. The Steelers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: A'Mauri Washington, the No. 37 name on the board, in Round 3, Pick 12.
Brown has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. With edge rusher unsolved, spending premium capital on wide receiver is the choice that costs them. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Zabien Brown
By-the-book stuff, Zabien Brown at slot 21 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick53
Rnd2
Charlie Becker
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went wide receiver with Charlie Becker while clear needs at edge rusher sat open.
Pick76
Rnd3
A'Mauri Washington
A'Mauri Washington at pick 76 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick85
Rnd3
Peter Clarke
Of all the spots to shop, they chose tight end. Peter Clarke in the 85th overall pick leaves edge rusher for later.
Pick99
Rnd3
Trinidad Chambliss
They went early on Trinidad Chambliss in the 99th pick, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick121
Rnd4
Koi Perich
No edge and no loss on Koi Perich in Round 4, Pick 21; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick135
Rnd4
Whit Weeks
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending No. 135 on Whit Weeks with edge rusher unsolved.
Pick159
Rnd5
Justice Haynes
A reach on Justice Haynes in pick No. 159; the board had better options right there. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
Pick213
Rnd6
Isaac Brown
Value said wait; Isaac Brown in slot 213 says they were not listening. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Pick214
Rnd6
Sammy Omosigho
They let Sammy Omosigho come to them and pounced at pick 214. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick224
Rnd7
Xavier Chaplin
They took Xavier Chaplin at par in the 224th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick237
Rnd7
Stephiylan Green
Stephiylan Green at No. 237 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
