Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesD- FutureA
A costly weekend of dealing drags the 49ers to a B-.

The 49ers clearly saw something nobody else did in Eric Gregory, taking him 50 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

On value alone, Henderson makes the weekend a net positive. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Mykel Williams
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 Trey Amos
No edge and no loss on Trey Amos in pick No. 43; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick75 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
Somehow TreVeyon Henderson was still sitting there in the 75th overall pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick100 Rnd3 Savion Williams
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Savion Williams at Round 3, Pick 36 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick113 Rnd4 Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. at the 113th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick138 Rnd4 Hollin Pierce
They paid sticker price for Hollin Pierce in No. 138, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick147 Rnd5 Jah Joyner
They liked Jah Joyner enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 147. It fills a real need, too.
Pick160 Rnd5 Ty Robinson
They took Ty Robinson at par in No. 160, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick227 Rnd7 Ty Hamilton
They talked themselves into Ty Hamilton at pick No. 227, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick249 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Isaac TeSlaa at Round 7, Pick 33. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick252 Rnd7 Eric Gregory
They left a pile of value on the table to take Eric Gregory this early at the 252nd pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
