Jareo DRAFTING FOR THESteelers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
C+

FutureB-
Flashes of a plan, unevenly executed. Steelers: C+. The rest of the league had time to spare on Trente Jones; the Steelers did not wait, grabbing him 67 spots ahead at the Round 7 slot.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the 20th pick they get a cornerstone up front, reach and all. More want than need.
Pick51
Rnd2
Junior Colson
They took Junior Colson at par in slot 51, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick84
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Khyree Jackson. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick118
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams at No. 118 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick119
Rnd4
Luke McCaffrey
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Luke McCaffrey. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick194
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
Gabe Hall at the 194th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick240
Rnd7
Trente Jones
A big swing on Trente Jones at Round 7, Pick 20, well ahead of any board in the building. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
