Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Steelers: B-.

The John Williams pick is the one that will follow the Steelers into the fall. They took him 37 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

On value alone, Judkins makes the weekend a net positive. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Matthew Golden
In No. 21 they get a true top target. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick83 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins slipping to Round 3, Pick 19 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick123 Rnd4 Jordan Phillips
A quiet steal in the Round 4 slot: Jordan Phillips for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick156 Rnd5 Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley at slot 156 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick185 Rnd6 Vernon Broughton
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Vernon Broughton. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick229 Rnd7 John Williams
John Williams at pick No. 229 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
