Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureB
Larceny in pick No. 124 lands the 49ers a D, Puni and all.

Somebody took the 49ers to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. Put together, it is a D.

The 49ers indulged a want in Hart while a need in edge rusher stayed open. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

McCaffrey has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Puni.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 15th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick31 Rnd1 Taliese Fuaga
In slot 31 they get a cornerstone up front, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick63 Rnd2 Christian Haynes
They paid sticker price for Christian Haynes in the 63rd pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick82 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick94 Rnd3 Kris Abrams-Draine
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kris Abrams-Draine at Round 3, Pick 31. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick117 Rnd4 Mekhi Wingo
A slide stopped in pick 117, with Mekhi Wingo worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick124 Rnd4 Dominick Puni
Steal is underselling it; Dominick Puni at No. 124 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick131 Rnd4 Cam Hart
A want over a need in pick 131: Cam Hart adds a cornerback while edge rusher keeps waiting.
Pick133 Rnd4 Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in Round 4, Pick 33 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick151 Rnd5 Jared Wiley
They liked Jared Wiley enough to skip the value, taking him in the 151st overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick176 Rnd6 Isaiah Davis
Isaiah Davis in pick No. 176 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick211 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III in the 211th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick215 Rnd6 Ryan Flournoy
Ryan Flournoy at the Round 6 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick251 Rnd7 Andrew Raym
Andrew Raym slid further than he should have, and slot 251 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
